Among them, Directive 2005/29/EC “on unfair commercial practices of businesses in their relations with consumers,” to regulate oversight and ensure that online reviews are reliable and backed by real customer experiences. It comes into force on May 28, 2022. In Spain, it is applied through the transposition of the aforementioned Directive by Royal Decree-Law 24/2021, of November 2, amending the General Law for the Defense of Consumers, such as Law 3/1991, of January 10, on unfair competition.
